Re: Heroes - Meeting them
As some of you know I used to have a job where I took the rich and famous around on a great big motorcycle so I met loads doing that. I remember the other week there being a thread on Mel Sykes and a lot of people were saying she had a reputation for being a cunt. I took her around loads and as you'll see on that jungle thing she's as nice a woman as you'll ever meet. A proper, down to earth northern bird (and there's fuck all wrong with that).

Anyway I've taken people like all the Spice Girls (no, not all at once), David Beckham, Bruce Willis, David Cameron (and a load of MPs), Robert Plant, Richard Branson and countless others and I couldn't have given a fuck. The only person I ever took who affected me was Tony Gale. A lovely bloke but I was like a starstruck little girl, purely because he engaged the 10-year-old West Ham supporter in me.

I was in the players lounge once with a pal who knew some of the players. Suddenly Lucas Neil walks up to me with his hand outstretched and says 'hello Chim, hows it going?' and I totally froze up and didn't even shake his hand. I was just thinking 'how the fuck does he know my name'? then I looked round and my pal was pissing himself laughing.

I'm such a poof when it comes to meeting West Ham players.

I got in a lift at Gatwick and Rory Gallagher was in there...it was 1979 and he was flying to Hamburg for a concert .He signed my book for me and I bought him a tea..I spent 20 minutes talking to him and no-one else recognised him. I've still got the video of his Irish tour.. what a waste at such a young age and what a great bloke

Yeah. I imagine I'd get a bit grouchy if the locals kept asking me to sing "that Christmas song" every time I went for a quiet pint.

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
Roy Wood thought he was ugly

Not true of course but might explain all those on screen personas he used back in the day?

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
Yeah maybe. And I was shitfaced.

I'm surprised he's considered shy though, he turned up at a mates party dressed as Roy Wood. Wasn't keeping a low profile!

Had a chat with Gemma Arterton on the set of clash of the titans without knowing who she was.

She was alright.

Frankie Mac was great. Not met anyone else I'd consider a hero to be honest.

I quite like Roy Wood

Are you sure his extreme shyness gave you the wrong impression?

Lydon was quite civil when I met him.

Russell Brand was a nice bloke as well.

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
I've met Roy Wood. He is not a hero of mine, and was a bit of a cunt.

I met Martin Amis at a book signing in my younger years (before he went a bit shit). Was disappointing, as he was more than a bit creepy. Bit of the Op. Yew Tree about him.

Sorry, John Lydon is singularly unlikeable

Re: Heroes - Meeting them
I've never had "heroes" but people I admired and met - John Lydon, Sir Trev, Geoff Hurst, James Bradfield (Manics) Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), JJ Burnel (Stranglers) and they were all alright.
